At the risk of drifting off on a tangent, I thought I'd stop by and share something from today's blog....
I've accepted the 7th Made Challenge, and I continuously work on "watching my mouth". I have a long fuse, but my temper can be explosive. I'm learning to temper my "angry" responses. But, in general, I'm finding that watching my 'mouth' isn't so much the problem - my lips are the gatekeeper. My challenge has been filtering my thoughts. It's not so much 'what I say' or 'how I say it' but 'what I think' and 'how I think it'. I'm sure you're familiar with the quote:
Watch your thoughts, they become words. Watch your words, they become actions. Watch your actions, they become habits. Watch your habits, they become character. Watch your character, it becomes your destiny. - Unknown
Well, I've learned that, in some situations, it's easy to bypass number 1 (...thoughts become words), and progress right along to actions, habits, etc. So, as I take inventory of my thoughts I realize that there's still a lot of work to do. Isaiah 26:3 reminds me to stay focused on the Word. A shift in the things I ruminate about, and in way that I process information, will position me to receive and execute the will of the Holy Spirit. Lord forbid I lean on my own understanding.
So, as it seems, the 7th Made Challenge is not just about the audible words we speak, but also the negative, unholy, self-destructive, and even deceitful words we whisper to ourselves.
Blessings, ~VP
